Personal Review: A Traditional Stone House Restored into a Luxurious Villa with all Modern Amenities

The villa is located in a sleepy settlement just 5 minutes outside Andros Town on a 6000 sq.m. orchard. One of the historic and recently signposted hiking tracks leading to surrounding villages passes right behind the house and if you don't want to use the car for going into town, there are also 4 bicycles at your disposal.

Extensive work was carried out to introduce modern technology and transform this traditional stone house into a modern luxury villa with all the amenities of todays world without losing the unique atmosphere that this architecture radiates.

Polished cement floors, modern low-noise (thermo-coil) air-conditioning/heating in all rooms, quality windows with fly screens & shutters, ceiling fans everywhere, wi-fi internet and flat-screen Sat-TVs with DVD-Player … and that beautifully designed infinity pool surrounded by a sea of flowers extending to a wooden deck with sun-beds to enjoy the view over the citrus trees of the orchard.

The main house consists of an open plan living-room, fully equipped kitchen, dining area and guest-WC on the ground floor. French doors allow direct access from the kitchen and the living-room onto the covered veranda with a dining table that can comfortably seat 10 people. On the upper floor is the master bedroom with a huge walk-in bathroom. A second bedroom hosts a double bed, en-suite bathroom and a second double-bed on a mezzanine floor above the bathroom. There are 3 balconies/verandas on the upper floor, facing different directions for you to choose between sun and shade at any time of the day.

Next to the main house and above the pool area is a detached guest house with a stone-built double bed and en-suite bathroom.

Below the main house is an independent guest house with living room, well equipped kitchenette, spacious bathroom with walk-in shower and french doors leading into the garden and a double-bed tucked into a cosy little cave-like room with a small window allowing direct vistas into the garden.

We enjoyed the tranquility and luxury of this spacious villa. The interior is a successful cross between the rather dark natural stone walls and modern white plastered walls with polished cement floors, giving us the unique opportunity to experience the atmosphere of the traditional architecture without having to sacrifice on modern values. We slept superbly in the spacious sun-spoilt bedrooms with their comfortable beds and extensive bathrooms with walk-in showers.

The pool with its beach-like shallow edge attracted us like an oasis and the kids just loved to roam around in the garden.

Our time was very limited, but we are definitely returning in order to discover the extensive network of ancient footpaths across the island. May, June, September and October are probably the best times from the aspect of temperature and the sandy beaches are more or less empty at this time of the year, giving you the impression that you are the first one to discover this little paradise.
