Traditional stone-house in Ano Meria, Folegandros, Cycladic Islands - Greece
This traditional farmhouse in Ano Meria, on the Cycladic island of Folegandros, has been carefully restored into a romantic holiday cottage that sleeps up to 6 guests. The stonehouse is situated on the edge of the farming village Ano Meria and offers a panoramic view over the Aegean sea towards sourrounding islands.
2 bedrooms(one double-bed and one single in each room),a living room with 2 sleeping-couches, a kitchenette, a bathroom with cold and hot shower and a large balcony with breath-taking views including the famous Greek sunset. The house is furnished in a simple, rustic fashion, combining modern facilities with gentle island tradition. There is a Radio and CD-Player in the house.
Folegandros is a small, unspoilt island which can be accessed by ferry from Athens or neighbouring Santorini; both have international airports serving destinations all over Europe. Highspeed ferries visit the island every day and take 3 hours and 45 min. from Athens or 40 min. from Santorini.
Although only 15 km in length, Folegandros is scattered with an array of delightful beaches and secluded caves, ideal for swimming and snorkelling in clear, cool waters. Folegandros is inhabited by approx. 700 people, many of whom still farm traditionally in Ano Meria.
In the summertime the island welcomes both Greek and foreign visitors who come to enjoy the many cozy tavernas and cafenions, providing tasty local food and wines. There are two tavernas in Agali as well as one of the best beaches on the island and several in Karavostasi, the portbay and in the main village of Hora you find them on every little square.
Ano Meria has 4 tavernas, 2 small super-markets a butcher and a baker, still baking bread traditionally in a woodburning oven.
For the walkers there are many treks to forgotten villages, beaches, caves, small churches and old monasteries.
The bus-stop for transport to the village of Hora and the harbour is situated 5 minutes walk from the stonehouse-cottage directly outside the local taverna.
Alternatively we can assist you to rent a car, motorbike or you book the local taxi.
There is an - around the island cruise - 3 times a week and a local boat to take you beach hopping daily.
